Germany is a technically well-equipped country and Europe's largest economy. It has a total area of 357,021 sq.km. It is bordered with Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland. Germany consists of 16 states which are popularly known as L'a'nder. These 16 states are: Baden-W'u'rttemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg- Vorpommern, Niedersachsen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Saarland, Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein, Th'u'ringen.

Germany's climate is mild and temperate, hence extreme temperatures are rather infrequent. During the summer time temperature goes as high up to 30 Degrees. In the winter a temperature below freezing point can be experienced in many states in Germany. Thus it is advisable to bring both summer clothes and winter clothes if you are coming to Germany. Nepalese students who come from the Terai region of Nepal might feel rather cold during their first couple of months in Germany. Terai region in Nepal is comparatively hotter than the normal climate in Germany. So it is always better to mentally prepare oneself from the climate difference between the home country and Germany.

Germany is a culturally rich and diverse country. Berlinale film festival celebrated every year is a major European film festival. Munich beer festival popularly called as 'Oktoberfest', is the largest festival in the world and is celebrated every year in the month of September in Munich.

Berlin, the capital city of Germany is located in the northeastern part of Germany. It is also the largest city in Germany. The Brandenburg gate in Berlin is a major historical spot which signifies the unification between the then east Germany and the then West Germany. A large number of events of all genre can be found in Berlin. It is also said that you are never alone in Berlin. The city always keeps you busy. The city of Frankfurt located in the state of Hesse is one of the main financial centre in Germany. There are many multi national companies located in the city of Frankfurt. Frankfurt airport is considered to be a very busy airport in the world. Nearly 1400 aircraft movements occur on a single day on average. Similarly, Frankfurt stock exchange is one of the biggest stock market in the world. The port of Hamburg popularly called as the Hafen Hamburg is a major port for sea traffic.

A number of German companies play a leading role in the world market. Some of the famous German companies are: Adidas,BASF, Bayer, BMW, Commerzbank, DaimlerChrysler, Mercedes-Benz,Deutsche Bank,Lufthansa,Siemens, Volkswagen Group etc. Euro is the main currency used in thirteen European Union countries among which Germany is one of them. The Deutsche Mark (DM) was the official currency of Germany before it was replaced by Euro on 1st January 2002.

The German politics is a federal parliamentary democratic republic system. German politics operates under the multi party system and the chancellor is the head of the government. Social Democrats (SPD) and Christian Democratic Union (CDU) are the major political parties influencing the German politics. Currently Angela Merkel is the chancellor of Germany. She is also the first female German Chancellor in the German history.
